Soft Homemade Bread Dough Recipe
Instructions:
1. Activate the Yeast (if using active dry yeast):
In a small bowl, combine warm
milk and
sugar.
Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
(Skip this step if using instant yeast—add it directly to the flour.)
2. Make the Dough:
In a large bowl or stand mixer, mix flour and salt.
Add the yeast mixture (or dry instant yeast), softened butter, and egg (if using).
Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough:
By hand: Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
With a mixer: Use a dough hook on medium speed for 5–6 minutes.
4. First Rise:
Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap.
Let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
5. Shape the Dough:
Gently punch down the dough to release air.
Shape into a loaf and place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
6. Second Rise:
Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until puffy and slightly above the pan’s rim.
7. Bake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
8. Cool:
Let bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Enjoy your soft, fluffy homemade bread!
