Perfect Boiled Eggs Recipe

Instructions

1. Prepare the Eggs
Use eggs that are not super fresh (5–10 days old peel best).

Place them in a single layer in a saucepan—don’t overcrowd.

2. Cover with Cold Water

Fill the pot with enough cold water to cover the eggs by 1 inch.

Adding salt and vinegar (optional) helps prevent cracks and eases peeling.

3. Bring to a Boil
Heat over medium-high until the water reaches a rolling boil.

Once boiling, immediately turn off the heat and cover the pot.

4. Let Sit for Desired Doneness
Soft-boiled (runny yolk): 6 minutes

Medium-boiled (creamy yolk): 8 minutes

Hard-boiled (fully set yolk): 10–12 minutes

5. Shock in Ice Water

While eggs sit, prepare an ice bath.

Transfer eggs immediately to the ice bath for 5–10 minutes to stop cooking.

6. Peel & Enjoy
Gently tap and roll the egg to crack the shell, then peel from the wider end.

Serve right away or refrigerate (unpeeled) for up to 1 week.
