Instructions:
Prepare the tortillas: If you’re using fresh corn tortillas, you can use them right away. However, if you’re using store-bought tortillas, briefly heat them in a skillet or microwave to make them more flexible.
Heat the oil: Fill a pot or deep fryer with enough vegetable oil to fry the tostadas. Heat the oil to about 180°C (356°F).
Fry the tortillas: Carefully place one tortilla into the hot oil. Be careful not to burn yourself. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to flip the tortilla so it becomes evenly golden on both sides. This usually takes just 1–2 minutes per side.
Drain: When the tostada is golden and crispy, remove it from the oil with tongs or a slotted spoon and place it on paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
Repeat the process: Fry the remaining tortillas the same way.
Salt: If desired, sprinkle the tostadas with salt while they’re still hot.
Fried tostadas can be used as a base for a variety of toppings such as guacamole, refried beans, seasoned meats, vegetables, cheese, and much more. They’re versatile and add a crispy texture to many dishes.
